Difficult movie to watch

I didn't think I'd ever say it about any of Hitch's movies, but this one was quite difficult to watch.

Yes, we understand . . .

It grows on you through repeated viewings, if you are a Hitchcock fan at all. The first time I saw it, I was shocked at it's very odd style, strange plot, and what seemed like crude and mechanical film making. If you like it all, it gets better over time. Bernard Herrmann's last score for Hitch was one saving grace. Might have more...

Herrmann's score is by far the highlight.

Why is that?

The thing that bothers me most is how the cause of Marnie's mental and emotional trauma isn't that well defined. They didn't even have to show the "evil man" touching the young Marnie. They just had to show him alone with her. And then the movie is actually simpler, giving it a more powerful impact.
