Mother's age

If Marnie's mother had her at 15, and Marnie must be, as much, 30 years old, and so Marnie's mother must be 45 or let's give it 50, why does she look SO old?

And why doesn't she freak out to the red brick wall of her mother's house?

All that sex with sailors on leave, I'm guessin.

I was thinking about this, and I think it's realistic. The mother was a prostitute, probably did some hard drinking and smoking. That will age you. She would look older than her actual years.

The makeup artists were trying to put some distance between Tippi Hedren and Louise Latham, most likely, because they were only 8 years apart in real life.

Louise Latham was 42 when the movie was made and Tippi Hedren was 34.

So, they thought Louise Latham was 13 years older than Tippi Hedren instead of being 8 years older than she was.

I still think they tried to make Louise Latham look older than her real age of 42 so that she would be believable as the mother of a grown woman.

**Spoilers**

The mother was injured pretty badly, during the "accident" and apparently spent quite some time in the hospital afterward. I think limping and having to use a cane made her look older, and we really don't find out until the end that her limp was due to trauma and not to arthritis or something due to aging. She probably "let herself go" after that, didn't want to be attractive to men anymore, and from what I gathered pretty much shut the rest of the world out except for raising Marnie and maybe going to church. She looked like a woman who aged way beyond her years because of her circumstances.

...and she looked younger and hotter in the flashback scene with a decent hairstyle and wearing that slip...

Marnie only freaks out when red reminds her of blood. The bricks aren't blood red.
