Britain plays catch up with Germany on Hammer yet again - but will it have this fantastic cover? http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/images/B001KKV4GI/sr=1-1/qid=123543717 %201/ref=dp_image_text_0?ie=UTF8&n=284266&s=dvd&qid=123543 717 1&sr=1-1

Question: As British 'Home Video' and computer game age restrictions have recently been discovered to be legally unenforceable due to an oversight (ignorance) by the then Thatcher government, doesn't that mean that -for the moment anyhow- we could walk into our local HMV [other high-street DVD retailers are available] (and I'm actually thinking of those without internet access as well as those who like to support local shops and their beleaguered employees) and order DVDs from other fellow Region 2 and European Union nations such as France, Germany and Spain - all of whom have released excellent Hammer product? I mean, it's supposed to be a single market, no?

I don't get it. Everyone says it's going to be released but here it is Jan 2010 and I still don't see it available on my netflix.

Where exactly is it available if at all?

reply

Check mr-dan-hunter's posting above mine (my previous one, the one to which you replied). Helpfully, he has provided a link to Moviemail's relevant product page. Moviemail have "The Gorgon" listed for UK DVD release on January 25, 2010 (that's this Monday coming at the time I type this); also "The Two Faces Of Dr Jekyll" and ""Taste Of Fear" (originally titled -at least on the cover- for the first time!).

I had a look for "The Gorgon on Play.com and Amazon.co.uk for you [ Netflix - isn't that an American service?] and, no, there was no sign of it, right enough - but as I pointed out previously, for Region-2-only fans it has been available on Amazon's German site Amazon.de for several months (and with a better cover IMO!).

Yes, Netflix is American. I just hope the fact it is coming out there means it will be available in the States soon!

WHAAAT?!! With respect, "The Gorgon" has been out in the States for over a year (released October 14th, 2008) as part of the excellent, good value two-disc, four film Sony Columbia boxed set Icons of Horror Collection: Hammer! I purchased it by pre-order from Amazon.com - and I'm over here!

Here it is reviewed on DVD Beaver* (*it's a Canadian site!): http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews42/icons_horror_hammer_films. htm. The page includes purchase links so there's no longer any excuse not to buy it right NOW, is there?! GO ON then, DO IT!

Unfortunately I don't have much money so I rely on netflix.

They need to get off their butts and get this movie!!

I'm sorry, I didn't realise. Should have thought of that. Ironically, I was made redundant over a year ago, but after 19 years; so whilst desperate for work, can afford the occasional DVD with my redundancy. I've cut right down though, obviously.
