Missiles???

I think I saw that the Hellcats that were flown at Guadalcanal ... as well as the Corsairs in Okinawa ... were firing missiles. Did I see that?

As I understand it there were no under-wing missiles at all in WW2 Is that correct? Was this a big blunder?
