The Ending - Spoilers

I think that Tatum somewhat redeemed himself in the end by telling the truth about what he had done. It was the first time he had done this, as he always spun the stories he was telling to get more readers. The scene where the father is walking across the sand towards the cave was very sad as well, all the people that were there to "support" were just as quickly gone.

Was it earned honestly though? He seemed to change character a little abruptly.

That it couldn't be sincere because he had such a quick change or heart, or that it was unbelievable because his character changed abruptly?

reply

Without getting into definitions, the change was both fast and almost 180 degrees.

But after sleeping on it, maybe the seeds of change were there in the little things and I didn't pay enough attention. Hate to question a genius like Billy Wilder.

reply

I thought you could tell that he was beginning to regret it, but felt like he had to go on.

reply

he knew he was dying also.
