The guy was an associate of Spielberg and had some genuinely notable movies in the 80s and 90s: Gremlins 1 and 2, The Burbs, Explorers, The Howling, Inner Space, Small Soldiers, etc.
But his 21st century filmography consists almost entirely of small movies no one's heard of and random episodes of TV shows. It's weird. I wonder what happened and how it is that he just kind of slipped away into obscurity.
That Looney Tunes movie he did with Brendan Fraser was his last big-budget release and it was also quite a big flop. I'm sure that didn't help matters.
shareOther than Gremlins, nothing he did was a big hit. I liked Innerspace, but it didn't do very well at the box office. I recall it being marketed as more of sci-fi film, but more emphasis on it being a comedy might have helped it sell tickets. The 'Burbs is also a fun movie, but it's something of a love it or hate it niche film.
