shareAll time: Frank Zappa. I have musical ADD, and he’s just the perfect cure for it.
Current: Deerhoof. They share spiritual roots with FZ, but have a slightly stronger pop sensibility.

shareThe thing about them is much like The Dead, they shine more in a live environment, rather than the studio, imo, so I’d much rather someone’s first experience retain more of a live energy, yet retain a studio quality recording. Luckily, several exist. Here are two:
