Pink Floyd, and David Gilmour as a solo artist.

Roisin Murphy ❤️

All time: Frank Zappa. I have musical ADD, and he’s just the perfect cure for it.

Current: Deerhoof. They share spiritual roots with FZ, but have a slightly stronger pop sensibility.

Deerhoof. Recommend an album.

The thing about them is much like The Dead, they shine more in a live environment, rather than the studio, imo, so I’d much rather someone’s first experience retain more of a live energy, yet retain a studio quality recording. Luckily, several exist. Here are two:

The Juan’s Basement sessions:

The Boiler Room sessions:

That said, two of my favorite albums of theirs are Milk Man and Breakup Song. Enjoy!

I'm watching Boiler Room as we speak. I'll check out the other stuff. Thank you!

reply

Hope you like. They still play intimate venues all over the world as well as huge festivals, and are just super nice people to boot.

reply

Yeah, pretty good. They're playing a city close to me in September. I'm going to try to make it.

reply

They grow on ya. And put on a hell of a show, including instrument switches, and Greg the drummer does a hilarious, rambling stream of consciousness word jazz segment. Tons of live vids out there.

reply

I'd always wondered if your screenname was FZ related...Rub it!

reply

Here, Fido! :D

Soundgarden

My other favorite (I usually have 2 favorites) is Liz Phair. Saw her a few years ago in St. Paul. She sang all her naughty old songs. It was great.

That would be a long list, but currently listening to a lot of

Elliott Smith
Grateful dead
Metallica
