Is anyone using satellite TV anymore?
DIRECTV, Dish Network? Anyone?
I know that streaming will eventually kill cable (or transform the cable companies’ business model), but satellite seems so 20 years ago.
And satellite internet? Really?

Sky used to be 100% satellite when it first came out. In more recent times it's moved over to the Sky Q-Box, which enables streaming, however, most of the dishes are still attached to a lot of houses in the UK (mine included).
shareI have DirecTV. I don't use streaming services because the content offered is not reliable. Example: You watch Season One of a series and are ready to watch Season Two, but then you find out that it was dropped last month. There's just too much inconsistency for me to consider subscribing to any of them.
shareThat’s a good point, but I find streamers like tubi and Epix to be pretty faithful. In my OP, I was thinking more about how uncompetitive and moribund the satellite industry has become. It seems outdated. And cable is tantamount to being outdated.
shareCable and satellite channels were at one time a welcome alternative to broadcast TV. Now too many of them air repeats of sit-coms and crime dramas that are edited to allow more advertising. A typical one-hour time slot now consists of 40 minutes of the actual program with the remaining 20 minutes made up of commercials and endless repetitions of promos for upcoming programs. Some of the classic hour-long dramas are missing up to ten minutes of the program because of this.
These channels are doing themselves in.
Sure. DirecTV here, and have been a customer for about 25 years. I watch probably 99% of my TV viewing there, but have a couple of streaming services as well. No satellite Internet -- I still get to the Internet over landline phone service.
shareWe don't all live in big cities with high-speed internet.
shareLooking out the window, there are an awful lot of satellite dishes out there. But who knows if they are still using them. I stopped using mine about five years ago. And it's still sitting on the roof.
shareWe had Direct TV years ago and dumped it. 70 channels of reality tv and informercials - no thanks!
We have very basic cable right now for local news and NFL games.
We stream probably 90% of what we watch and have a nice library of physical media.
