My friend LOVES this restaurant... But hates to tip.

My friend loves this Japanese restaurant (let's call it restaurant "A"). We eat there all the time. She refuses to go any where else. She LOVES that place.

Anyway, she always orders her favorite - a Bento Box, which is $10. It comes with way too much stuff for $10, so I guess that's why she likes it. I've tried other restaurant and when I get Bento Boxes there, they're like $14 and it comes with half the stuff restaurant A gives us.

Well anyway, by the end of dinner... She refuses to tip. It's $10, and she won't even put in a dollar. She said "the meal is already $10, why pay more?" But like... $10 is normal for dinner. Actually, it may be a little bit cheap for dinner.

Is she being cheap and ungrateful? Like we try to go to other Japanese restaurants but she won't go there because it's "over priced for what they give you" (and to be honest, it's not over priced for what they give us... It's just that restaurant A gives us way too much for what we pay, and she STILL won't tip restaurant A)

Only fools and a-holes would not tip at a place they go often.
They don't tip other places either, but if one returns to a place, a lot, and doesn't tip is stupid.

reply

Yeah. You should always tip if you spend more than 10 dollars anywhere.

Tipping is what you pay for having service. Many resterants even require that you pay 15%. $10 is how much the food is, but she should pay $1.50 for the service, because that's the charge.

(Heck, if you go there often, don't hesitate to leave a 25% tip. This way you're insured GREAT service when you return)

People who don't tip make me mad. It's like stealing money.

How embarrassing. I would either plan on just tipping her share every time and making her feel like a cheapskate or not go there, or any other place that's not fast food, with her.

the tip should be at minimum $2

i always tip atleast 20% unless the service is absolutly horrible (meaning the waitress/waiter is rude), in that case the tip is next to nothing.

It would be interesting to know if your "friend" works in a Service. Also, it is possibly worth noting that in her desire to be thrifty, there is no room for abundance in their life.

Also, it would appear as though your friend is very self absorbed and is ignoring her "impact" on the world around her.

I am curious about what you get from the friendship you give her.
