when watching blue collar a film from 1978 i thought this looks and feels better than nowadays movies

i tried to find out what it is, i was thinking it's the producing or directing, then i thought about the kind of quality cameras that the director used in the '70s and '80s compared to nowadays. then i thought oh, it's filming with film in the '70s and '80s compared to filming on digital. it seems more realistic a movie on film compared to digitally. so is this true?

I don't know if it is true but I enjoy cinematography from the 70's more than the camerawork of present day. There currently are a lot of misguided trends in cinematography that don't look good to me. Especially the use of oversaturated colours and in-camera effects. Maybe the possibilities of digital camera's have made these bad trends more popular.
