why did the cable channels original programming change?

The way cable network programming moved away from their original intent really bothers me.
Here is a small list of networks, their original programming, and now what they show:
Bravo, Performing arts, drama, and indie films, The Real Housewives of...
A&E, Biographies, documentaries, and drama series, Gene Simmons Family Jewels.
History Channel, what else, History!, Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men
TLC (acronym for The Learning Channel, informative/instructional network, Trading Spaces, Junkyard Wars.
Science Channel, science-related television programs , An Idiot Abroad, and, I love this, Punkin Chunkin, A one-hour condensed version of the World Championship pumpkin chunking contest in Sussex County, Delaware.

Because they know reality shows are cheap. It's why IMO History Channel abandoned its Kennedy miniseries which they ordered, but suddenly didn't fit in their lineup. Which was what?
