Amazon fire cube won’t turn off

Hello. I’ve just got an Amazon fire tv cube and I cannot turn it off. The off button on the remote doesn’t do anything. I’ve tried asking Alexa to turn it off and she has no idea. Is it not working properly or am I being an idiot?
