All the villains of 1950s Westerns start showing up as the heroes in the 1960s.

If you watch a lot of 1950s Westerns, you will see many appearances of Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin, James Coburn, Lee Van Cleef, etc. as dastardly villains. Amusingly enough, ten years later, these guys all take over the hero roles in Westerns from the more clean-cut 1950s Western stars. This changeover to rougher, more ambiguous protagonists goes hand-in-hand with the stylistic influences from the Italian Spaghetti Westerns that were becoming popular at the time.
