Rajinikanth’s 2.0 is Finally Slated to Release on 29th November 2018

With an enormous budget of INR 500 crores, the Rajinikanth – Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 is a magnum opus like none other. A spiritual sequel for the 2010 movie Enthiran (Robot), the movie features Thalaiva, Akshay Kumar, along with Amy Jackson. In this movie, Rajinikanth will play the role of Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti, while Akshay Kumar will play his arch nemesis, the evil bird man. The plot of the film revolves around the concept of ‘Good over Evil’.

The pre-production work for the movie had begun three years ago, back in 2015 with Lyca Productions backing the project financially. In this movie, Oscar winners like Resul Pookutty and A.R. Rahman are teaming up. To play the role of Rajinikanth’s on screen nemesis, actors like Kamal Haasan, Aamir Khan, Vikram, Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger and Akshay Kumar were approached and the role was taken up by Akshay Kumar.

This is what music director A.R. Rahman had to say about this movie, “Recently, I watched one song without any CG effects and it was mind-blowing. And, the climax segment is incredible. Of course, there is Superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar to ensure a fantastic viewing experience for the audience when the film releases."

The first schedule of the movie began on 16th December 2015, where portions starring Amy Jackson and Rajinikanth were shot. The portions involving Akshay Kumar was shot in Chennai during the beginning of March 2016. The principal photography was wrapped on 22nd October 2017. The release of the film was delayed due to the numerous post-production CGI works.
The film production house Lyka Production had tweeted, “With Great Pride and Immense Excitement announcing the release date of our #MagnumOpus #2Point0 – November 29Th, 2018. Gear up to view the Ultimate Clash.”

The sci-fi thriller is set to release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and would be dubbed in over 12 languages. Will 2.0 redefine Indian cinema? Only time will tell.
