The Revenant (What did you all think?)

Saw The Revenant a little while back and couldn't help but be taken aback by all the praise it's gotten. It is certainly not a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination but it is the first of Inarritu's films that i really just didn't care for.

Made a video review for those who might be interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUznmO-G0tM

What did you all think of it? Why did you like or dislike it? What would you rate it? : )

I thought it was fair, but certainly not worthy of all it's praises. I enjoyed the cinematography for the most part, but I didn't care for much of the story. Honestly? The true story is so much better. For one thing, it happened in August, not during any part of the winter season. It just became Hollywood hogwash.

Amen, brother. Happy to find someone who occupies the same plane of thought I do on the movie. Again, not because it was bad but because it isn't as great as a lot of people have made it out to be. A lot in the movie to like but over all it draws a very lukewarm response from me.

I thought it was very good, especially as a big screen, surround sound, cinematic experience. One of the better blockbusters in recent memory.

Personally I thought it was better than some of Innaritu's other outings like Babel. Still it was a bit too long and there are some scenes that could have easily been cut for a better overall experience (later in the film the dream sequences felt completely unnecessary).

The cinematography was amazing and one scene in particular was so well done that I am still thinking about it (animal attack sequence). Sound design, acting, costumes were all solid, but I think the score was a bit repetitive, even if it helped establish a tone, it could have done some more different things. CGI looked like CGI, but at least it was well animated.

For me it was an 8/10, although I don't think it will hold up well on a repeat viewing, but I doubt it is lower than a 7/10.
