Ever notice this movie trope? (2)

In those "end of the world," movies when it is from some force from space.

We will always have that one or two figures that has a chance to save themselves but don't.
Usually a parent and it is always a dad to a daughter.
(As seen in Deep Impact and Greenland.)
They give the same speech.
"It's been years since your mother passed (He didn't divorce her.) and things just were never the same without her. I miss her and need to go back to her. You carry on without me. I'll be fine. This is what I want."

As a bonus they might throw in astronuts or a worker who make the ultimate sacrifice to save humanity.
(As seen in Deep Impact, Indy Day and Armageddon.)
They give the same speech.
"Tell my family/daughter I love them/her and to carry on my/our legacy and to never forget me/us! Tell her/them to be proud and not sad for what I/we did."

Just how do all these families have all these nuts in their trees?
