(SOLVED) Forgot the Name of Obscure Asian Movie! 80s Era

Hello all!

I'll try to give as much details as possible!

I'm not sure what year era it was from, maybe late 70s to 80s? It's definitely older than 90s.

Details:

I remember that there was an evil gang where they kidnapped a woman and she was brought to some kind of tall building, they were on the top floor. And the gang had their own captive (woman as well), not sure what her role was. But, the recently kidnapped woman wouldn't tell anything, so in order to prevent herself from being tortured for info, she used some kind of magic to cut her own head off, it was like a blue streak line with her hand "slicing" her neck without actually touching it.

The gang was surprised, but didn't care because that's why they had their own woman in the event of this, so her head was cut off and used the kidnapped woman's head to put on the woman. Now that I'm typing this out, why couldn't they just put it back on the kidnapped woman's body? :P

But anyways, yeah. And I just remembered, the woman tried to jump out of the building and was prepared to meet her end by closing her eyes right before the rocks on the bottom in a slow motion scene, but a member of the gang flew to catch her, and then yeah, she proceeded to cut her head off herself.

That's one of the two scenes I remember.

And now the second scene and I believe it was the ending, um. It was two people who were in love, I believe, they were in some kind of hellscape setting, with a bunch of fires and they were both propped up on the crosses, as if they were going to be crucified. But also they seems to have accepted their fate? Like they were happy to die together.

I don't remember the gang very much, too, unfortunately. I mean I do vaguely remember that there was a chunky man. And another man with some kind of conical bamboo hat. It was a bunch of raggedy misfits, evil-looking.

The time period of that movie was most likely to be way before 1800s. Or at least medieval setting, nothing industrial or technological.

It was also fantasy, like there was a lot of magic. Insane movements and fighting skills.

That's all I can remember, sorry and thank you in advance if you know the title of the movie! I loved this movie and it's been decades since I've seen it, the first scene has been replaying in my mind! :)

Also, someone did answer this, but it was over 10 years ago on IMDB, so the posts have been deleted since then and I can't go back to it...sadly!

Are you sure that it isn't movie with Joey Wang? She played many roles in 80's and early 90's, but I don't have an idea connected with exact title.

reply

I thought she looked quite familiar and was excited! I looked through her filmography, but...nothing. That movie that I was looking for is not on it. The movies that she's been in do look very similar, though!

Thank you. Maybe you have more like her that I can look up, please if so!

reply

It sounds like wuxia movies, but I don't have any idea. I will be to search.

I found "Bak fat moh lui zyun" ("The Bride with White Hair"), but it is from 1993, so I doubt. Other possibility is " Tian long ba bu" (1977)

Wow, you've been doing some work! Thank you, I appreciate it!

For both movies you've mentioned:

"Bak fat moh lui zyun" ("The Bride with White Hair") 1993 - That's not it, kinda similar, though.

"Tian long ba bu" (1977) - While I absolutely love the movies directed by Chang Cheh and/or distributed by Shaw Brothers, such as Crippled Avengers, Five Elements Ninjas, Kid With The Golden Arm etc., but that's not it...unfortunately.

I will look at the list of Wuxia movies you've sent me, that list looks like I'd be very likely to find the movie! I'll let you know later today.

reply

OK. I found something similar else, but I am not sure. "Fei tou mo nu" (1982) - it could be tough to find, because Chinese and Asian movies generally aren't too popular in USA or other West countries.

"A woman who has been cursed by a witch must rip off her head every night so it can fly around, attack people and drink their blood, which keeps her alive."

Other possibility is "Xin huo shao Hong Lian si" about kidnapped young witch.

Hello again.

I looked at both, they are not the one I'm looking for. :(

I'm so sorry, and yeah, you're right! It's tougher than I thought, because I looked at the list too. All 122 movies, I've noticed a pattern among most of them which doesn't fit with the one I'm looking for. Like the production budget seemed to be much more expensive for that movie. Like actual landscapes, no visual of "production" rooms like you can see the painted walls, none of that.

The witch's head flying around movie is creepy as hell, but sounds like it would be fun to watch, haha!

And also, on that list you sent me, I highly recommend watching "Duel to the Death" 1983, one of the best I've seen!

OK. Check maybe Ching Siu-tung, he is a director this type of movies. Maybe "Witch from Nepal" ?

reply

I checked all the movies Ching Siu-tung directed, no luck. Witch from Nepal is not it, too. It's from like medieval times, it's not from like late 1800s to now.

We're a step closer, though! His movies are similar to the movie I saw. I watched some of his movies briefly, mainly just the ending since it's easier to find out right away to see if it's the right one.

Hey!!! I found it!!!

It's called Iga ninpôchô (Death of a Ninja, 1982)!!!! Thank you so much, your suggestions have helped brought me closer and closer until finally I found it!!! :)

I can't believe it, omg, lol. It's been FOREVER since I've seen it, now I shall watch it tonight, thank you!

And the first scene I described, it's around 22 minutes in. The second (ending) is...darker and shorter than I remember.

Edit: I'm also writing the name down in my journal, so I won't forget it ever again! :P

OK. I am very happy that you found this! :-)

I was sure that it is wuxia and Chinese movie (because there were popular similar movies), but it is Japan movie. I hope that I will glad if I will watch the movie too :-)

BTW: If you have any idea with "my" movies, I will be grateful :-)
